Nannofossils
I am Felipe Vallejo-Hincapié, a geologist specializing in calcareous nannoplankton with over ten years of experience. Currently leading the calcareous nannofossil group at the Instituto de Investigaciones en Estratigrafía, Universidad de Caldas.
I am a fourth-year Ph.D. student at the University of Salamanca, focusing on using calcareous nannoplankton for biostratigraphy in NW Colombia. My goal is to understand the evolution of the eastern tropical Pacific and southwestern Caribbean basins.
As a voting member of the Subcommission on Neogene Stratigraphy, International Commission on Stratigraphy, I contribute to global stratigraphy advancements.

I study a group of fossilized marine microalgae called calcareous nannofossils. Nannofossils are one of the most powerful tools in the discipline of biostratigraphy; that is, dating and correlating sedimentary rocks according to their fossil content. My objective is to position rocks of NW Colombia in a temporal framework to understand the evolution of the eastern tropical Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea.
